Vasily A. SmaginVasily A. Smagin was born in Voronezh in 1921. He began to study the art of Russian painting as a lad in Voronezh, Russia . Vasily served in the Red Army during WWII and after the war ended he returned to Voronezh. In 1950 he became a member of the Voronezh Artists' Union. Very little is known about him and few of his works survived. The small studies that have survived indicate that his main interest was portraiture and still life paintings. Many of the pieces that have survived are portraits of soldiers-done with great sensitivity and tremendous attention to detail. Vasily A. Smagin was obiviously a very talented artist and it is a great mystery why so little is know about his personal or artistic life.
